“This event aims to not only show off the female tech talent we have in South Africa, but also to encourage young girls to consider a career in technology, and local companies to think about how they can support the development of women in IT. And, we’re excited to be able to give the grand prize winners a trip that will be an educational experience of a lifetime.”
For the first time since its inception, GirlCodeHack will take place in three cities from 3-5 August 2018:

5 Awesome tweaks you need to make to your Facebook profile so people can take you seriously

Have you wondered why you don’t have any friends?

No, I’m not talking about friends that you meet for chai,

I’m talking about your “REAL” friends, your “besties”.
You know, the ones on Facebook? ?

Over the past several months, I’ve been noticing a lot of people on Facebook who are making some big, yet simple mistakes in order to “connect” with people.

Sure, we might feel comfortable hiding behind our social media profiles, but if you are a personal brand or a business and trying to make a connection with your potential customers or clients, some of you have a problem.

You’re not being taken seriously.

Picture this, you come across a post of someone who posted something in a group and it piques your interest.

And if you’re like most people, you’ll hover over their name and see what else you can find out about this person because they could be someone you’d potentially want to connect with whether it’s because you think they might be able to help you or you share some common interests.

But, after you click on the profile, it’s not clear who or what they are all about

and…. you move on.

OK, I know what you’re thinking.

Oh my garsh! Is Faisal talking about me?

Maybe……..Maybe not.

Good news:

Below I’ll share with you 5 simple things you can do to your profiles right now and see a noticeable difference in the connections you make and the engagement you’ll foster.
Trust me there are so many more tweaks you can do to explode your brand online, but for this post, I’m gonna share 5 tips, OK?

Let’s jump right in

For starters..

1.A Professional headshot

A profile picture can say a thousand words…

If you’re a personal brand:
Be sure to post a great headshot of yourself from the shoulder up. The picture should have good lighting and clear. Not the fuzzy type of images that make a person take off their glasses thinking it’s their eyesight going bad. Have a great friendly smile that’s inviting and that makes people think, “I like this person already”.
Oh yeah, headshots cropped from the last wedding group shot you attended does not count.

2. A cover image which shows your personality and professionalism

Make sure you use a nice cover image that has a good mix of professionalism and personality. No beach shots of you running along the shore with your biryani belly bouncing up and down. It’s just weird ok?

Again a nice profession headshot of you and your smile, perhaps a great quote that you love, a few words about how you help people and perhaps if you have them, some logos of brands you’ve worked with or publications you’ve been featured in. Social proof goes a long way.

3. Use the Introduction of your Facebook Profile

Use the “introduction” section of Facebook to give your elevator speech.

Make sure you have a great introduction on your profiles to let people know what you do or better yet, how you can help them. After all, people want to know, “What’s In It For Me?”.
They want to know how you can help them. Let them know in one line!

4. Complete the rest of your profile

Don’t forget to cross your t’s and dot your i’s
Give people a little more info about you by making sure you complete the rest of your profile. You can add a longer description about you and your business, phone number and address as well. Be sure to link your Facebook pages so people can find your business and brand too. (a lot of people forget to do this).

5. Use Clickable Links to your Websites and Social Media Profile

Use the “website” section in your profile to add your business website url, other social media account urls or even a landing page for an opt-in for a free gift.

If you do choose to use your website section for a landing page, PLEASE be sure to either give its own domain name or make sure the landing page is hosted on the same domain as your business website.

I recently came across someone who claimed to have built a million dollar business but hosted a landing page on “How to make millions…” on their domain of their restaurant.
It made me laugh so hard that my falafel shot onto my keyboard. Yuck!

It all boils down to this:

We’re all on social media for a reason and first impressions are a big deal.

With these simple tweaks that you can make immediately, you’ll see a difference in how people approach and reach out to you simply because your profile is more attractive than a white silhouette on a light blue background.

Save Tons of Time by managing all your Emails from 1 Place

Are you a mom trying to work from home? So you have your website set up and your new domain email! You can’t keep up with checking all your different email inboxes. And the worst case scenario? You miss out on a potential gig, cos you checked your domain email 2 days late.

In this post I am going to show you how you can check one inbox, to read all your gmail and domain emails, and reply from there too. The advantages are, that you will save TONS of time, you will look professional, and you will be able to land many more clients, because a potential client will not necessarily respond to the most affordable quote, but rather to the service provider who is most responsive, ie, replies the quickest to their enquiries.

  • Open your main Gmail Account that you are used to using every day
  • Select the Settings icon, and click on “Settings” in the drop-down menu
  • Select “Accounts and Import”
  • In the third section, called “send mail as”, select “Add another email address you own“, a new yellow window will pop up
  • In the Name section, fill in your name as you would like it to appear when you are sending emails to your clients
  • In the email section, add your domain email “yourname@yourdomain.com”
  • Click on “next step”
  • When asked if you would like mail to be sent through SMTP server, select yes, as you do not want it to appear as coming from your Gmail address.
  • You can select “treat as an alias”
  • Click on “next step”
  • In the SMTP server field, enter the details found in your C panel, when you created your domain email. It will look something like SMTP.yourdomain.com
  • In the Username field, enter your domain email address, if that doesn’t work, then just the username.
  • Leave the SMTP port as is.
  • Select “Secured  connection using TLS”
  • Click on “Add account”
  • You will be requested to verify this action, so open up your domain email by entering www.yourdomain.com/webmail into a new browser tab, checking your mail, and clicking on the link in the confirmation email
  • Go back to Gmail settings, Accounts and Import, and check the “reply from same address” option

  • Open your main Gmail account
  • Select Settings and “Accounts & Import” again
  • In the 4th section called “Check mail from other accounts”, Select “Add a POP3 mail account you own
  • Another yellow window will open
  • In the same manner as above, enter your domain email address or username if that does not work for you
  • You can select “send a copy to server” if you wish, and leave SSL unchecked
  • Click on “next

You are done!! You can now send an email to your client from your personal Gmail account, but it will appear to be from your domain email address, and you can also “reply from” your domain email address.

Here’s how: When you compose a new email, in the “From” field, click on the drop-down menu, your good old Gmail address will be there, as well as your domain email address, you can select either one to send an email from!! You can also add as many domain email addresses to this Gmail account as you wish, and manage them all from one place!

And there you have it!

If you found this tutorial helpful, please share it with anyone who you think might benefit from it. Have you got any other technical email questions? Please pop in the comments below?

Would you like some help with this? I can do this for you : )

What’s all the hype about Sales Funnels?

[This post may contain affiliate links. If you purchase through one of these links I will make a commission at no extra cost to you.]

A sales funnel, also called a sales pipeline, purchase funnel, marketing or revenue funnel is one of the base concepts in Digital marketing. It is the journey which companies lead customers through when purchasing products. All sales start off with a large number of cold leads and will result in a small number of engaged and interested customers who will actually buy. The journey consists of a series of steps made up of marketing strategies aimed at leading your customer from the top of your funnel to the bottom, through building trust and engagement, when they will buy. There are multi million dollar business owners who have built their career around this single concept! Yep it is that great!

First let’s look at a basic marketing concept which makes it easier to sell your products, because according to research, it takes at least 5 touches to sell to someone. So this means that your customer will have to interact with you at least 5 times before you can attempt selling them your high – end product. These touches will take your cold lead from not knowing about you and your product, right down the funnel till they know like and trust you and want to buy your product or service.

A  Awareness

I   Interest

D  Decision

A  Action

The customer’s buying journey will start off with awareness made by content marketing, blog posts, Social Media, Video or Webinars, the Customer will then show Interest, engage and ask questions, then they will make a decision and take action.

Here are some examples of “touches” that you can use to bring customers in:

The first Touch:

  • A blog with valuable tips and advice
  • A squeeze page where people landed through other forms of advertising, used on it’s own or with a blog post
  • A Youtube video offering value
  • A guest post

The second touch:

  • Mailing list allowing you to address your customers directly and personally give them value
  • Social media: You followers on Social media who engage with you, watch your facebook lives, read, like and share your posts
  • Youtube – getting your customers to subscribe to your channel so that they can see more of your content

The third touch

  •  A free E Book, cheat sheet or report
  • A webinar
  • A video chat or discovery call

The fourth touch:

  • Selling a low-end E book offering a related service to your main product and also showing the value of your high-end product
  • Selling a number of items which increase in value
  • A free trial – of an app or software
  • T-shirts and gifts

The final touch:

This will be your when you convert your readers and email subscribers or followers into a customer or convert your low-end customers into high-end customers

What type of business do you have?

My business is online and I have elements of it being offline with live retreats and workshops. I am coach for female Muslim entrepreneurs ( or aspiring entrepreneurs) who want to heal emotionally, financially and physically while building a business. The women I work with have a particular interest  to heal their marriages and create financial independence for themselves.

How long have you been in business?

I started my business online in January 2016. I just started using funnels this month.

How has introducing Sales funnels into your business strategy changed/benefited your business growth?

I wanted to have a way to make sales and capture qualified leads with a system that wouldn’t take as much effort from me on the front end. I’ve just launched but have been successful in getting discovery calls and acquiring my first client from this funnel.

I would recommend for someone just starting off to use basic software like Leadpages and Active Campaign, or the basic package of Clickfunnels. If you’re not at the point of needing to measure advanced metrics or use advanced tools you’ll just be spending money unnecessarily.

How did you hear / learn about funnels and what was your growth strategy before? What are your favourite learning resources?

I learned about funnels in several business trainings I have taken. My growth strategy before was just using content marketing to grow an audience. I learned this wasn’t sustainable and left me in a position to be always working in my business and not on my business.

Did you set up your own funnels or did you have someone do it for you?

I had someone do it for me.

Any sales funnel success secrets you would like to share?

I don’t have enough experience as I’m new to all of this. Only thing I would say is to start basic and build. Don’t get overwhelmed with other more complicated funnels you are seeing. Start where you’re at and build at the pace that works for you.

How has introducing Sales funnels into your business strategy changed/benefited your business growth?

I have grown my email list to almost 6K all through organic Facebook marketing strategies using funnels to capture the emails. It wouldn’t have been possible to achieve these results without funnels.

Which software/s do you use and recommend to others who want to start using sales funnels?

I began with Leadpages which I highly recommend because of it’s ease of use for anyone starting out. I have been really happy with the funnels I created using Leadpages, especially with the recent addition of drag and drop editing.

I am currently migrating across to ClickFunnels to utilize the additional functionality it offers and I am setting up my first funnels so I can’t really report on how I find it.

How did you hear/ learn about funnels and what was your growth strategy before? What are your favourite learning resources?

My business coach introduced them to me. I am self-taught. My previous career was an analyst programmer in the IT industry.

Did you set up your own funnels or did you have someone do it for you?

I have set up my own funnels from the beginning. In fact, I loved the fact that I could have an idea in the morning and have the funnel up – and – running and be able to make sales before the evening.

Any sales funnel success secrets you would like to share?

Continuity is really important, colours, language, and graphics should be consistent across the funnel so your potential clients know that they are still on the right track to getting your help.

What type of Business do you run?

I help people bridge the gap between their expertise/business and regular sales online by building online systems using funnels and webinars. The format is a 1-on-1 mentorship format delivered over 8 weeks where I take people through their messaging + avatar discover, funnels, webinars, driving traffic and optimising/scaling for future.

My target market is mainly early stage businesses who are struggling to get any predictability in their online income or those that have hit a ceiling in their growth and are looking to break through. No particular niche as I’ve helped people from wide ranging industries.

How do you use sales funnels in your Business?

I have a very simple webinar funnel which I find works best for me and my clients.

It starts with an FB ad which leads to a webinar registration page.

The webinar registration page then sends the link to attend the webinar.

The webinar then leads to a Scheduleonce page where prospects schedule a time to speak to me one on one.

There is an application form after the Sscheduleonce page.

I then take them through a strategy call and assess if we ar a good fit for each other, their goals, their problems. If I can help then I will tell them about my mentoring services.

How long have you been using funnels?

I have been using funnels for about 3 years now.

How has introducing Sales funnels into your business strategy changed/benefited your business growth?

It’s actually provided a platform for me to systematise my business and focus on clients more than worrying about how to get leads through to my business.

It’s a massive relief in that now that it’s set up I just need to test and optimise as I go. I feel like it’s very hands off. I won’t reveal specifically the figures I’m getting but after implementing sales funnel I started out with consistent high 4 figure months and then improved to low 5 figures. I would say the major benefit is that it’s provided a regularity in income which you may not be able to get with other vehicles online.

Which software/s do you use and recommend to others who want to start using sales funnels?

This is what I use and what I’d definitely recommend to those from starters to advanced players: Clickfunnels + ActiveCampaign + SendGrid + ScheduleOnce + Formstack + Stripe

How did you hear/ learn about funnels and what was your growth strategy before? What are your favourite learning resources?

I actually started off online when a friend of mine gave me a book called the laptop millionaire. I was looking to get out of the 9-5 and was looking for something that would suit the lifestyle I wanted to live. I stumbled on webinars

In trying to set up webinars I realised that you need to build a system around it to get people to register, show up and buy after they may have missed it which is how I came to learn about funnels etc.

I had no growth strategy before as I didn’t know what business I wanted to be in. I started with webinar and pretty much within a few months came across funnels. So it’s been with me since the very start almost. I first started out using LeadPages but then transitioned to CF as it was more “funnel” orientated and easier to use.

Did you set up your own funnels or did you have someone do it for you?

I started out setting up my own funnels but then realised I was becoming my own bottleneck and I couldn’t scale my own business if I kept doing this. So I then outsourced at first, which led to me then building a team of builders that I know have for my company.

I also have my own webinar funnel that I transfer into clients accounts when they sign-on which saves massive amounts of time!

Any sales funnel success secrets you would like to share?

There are a few but the most important lessons I have learned are below:

  1. Start simple – do not build in 17 upsells and 39 downsells into a funnel that is not already proven by you!
  2. Don’t take people on a journey they don’t want to go on – by this I mean understand the market you’re funneling to. Are they time poor? Will they want to read an e-book etc. Understand your avatar before you build the funnel.
  3. Lastly, funnels have zero value, Your solution has zero value until unless you can solve someone’s problems. The funnel is never the issue. If it isn’t converting it’s almost always because of the lack of congruency between your messaging and your avatar and what they need.

3a. therefore, spend 99% of your time sharpening your axe (messaging, avatar study, pain, problems etc.) and 1% of it cutting the tree down (funnel).
