What I’ve been up to lately

It’s been a really long time since I have actually written a post myself. LOL I seem to read many blog posts starting like this in an almost apologetic way!! It has been over a year since I launched this blog in May 2016. Yay! And I thought now would be a great time to reflect on the year that has passed.

Of course I cannot talk about the inception of my blogging journey or write this post without thanking the  #ECMEETUP team (Luchae Williams and Eleanor Douglas Meyers) for giving me that boost of confidence to just go ahead and go live with my blog. The rest of the EC blogger group started becoming my go – to comfort space of sister – like friends who I could ask a quick blogging question or just bounce some ideas off of, share some of my happy and sad moments with or talk about makeup.  (Shay and Ella, Megan, Nadine, Odette, Miriam, Laurina, here’s to you. xoxo)

My Brand, my Blog and social media platforms quickly grew and I have made so many new relationships and came across so many opportunities along the way.

I met some amazing new friends, Chantal Bezuidenhout, my main lady! My biz bestie, accountability partner and my favourite client! And I met some not so amazing people too. I worked on projects that made me realise I am capable of so much more than I give myself credit for.

Some lessons that I learnt from these not so amazing people:

*If you treat people badly and you are dishonest and selfish, you will never EVER be successful

*I am an amazing service provider even if I say so myself ; ) I give my all to get results.

*The importance of relationship – building in business far outweighs just a good business model

I made quite a few brand and PR connections. It is always fun to work with brands and showcase new businesses especially local and mom-owned ones. I would have liked to spend some more time on making more brand relationships, but my time in the end of 2016 was spent in building my new business. More on that later…

Still one of my favourite online spaces to hang out is The Hello Boss Creative Community (2019 UPDATE: this group has changed to a paid membership) where most of my biz buddies hang out and where I actually did my first live FB Video.

I was also interviewed on national television in April (gasp) I know, I couldn’t believe it either, I also thought that email was sent to the wrong person lol! But jokes aside, it was meant for me and you can check out my Skype interview on Itrend, Itv Networks over here at about 27:12. Thanks so much, Zaheerah for the lovely chat! I would have loved to be in the studio in Johannesburg to meet you in person, but, kids…

I realised that I have so much passion and talent for Technology, Web Development, Social Media Marketing and Digital Marketing so I kept on zealously pursuing knowledge of these things in every way possible, in between nursing baby, making kids sleep or playing with them. I learnt that my personality type is INTJ – The architect. This made so much sense to me and explained why I am so technical and analytical. If you would like to know more about this you can check out the 16 Personalities test. I also went through some identity changes, where I realised that I should just stick to being called by what I am currently used to, and that is Zaahida : ). I am also at a stage in my life where I am trying my hardest to give myself me – time, stop worrying what others are thinking, putting down boundaries and getting stuff done rather than perfect!!!! And I have started studying Coding.

Some more amazing friends I have made: Melissa Javan, Bouchra Rebiai, Brittany Karmie, Mandy Lee Miller, Melissa Helen de Klerk, Clarissa Mance, Lupita Santana and more. My mentors: Abbey Lynn Ashley and Julie Christine Stoian.

I have since launched and started operating my Digital Marketing Agency Zaahida Joel Digital Marketing, full – time from my home in January this year, which I sometimes operate in my pyjamas ; ). I will be separating all my services from my Blog over to my new website www.zaahidajoel.com soon. I take over Digital Marketing and Business Admin for Creative and passionate online female entrepreneurs. Some of the services I provide is Blog Management, Blog Marketing and WordPress Maintenance. I am taking part in 2 Bootcamps to improve my Digital Marketing and Freelancer skills, landed my first international client and actually can’t keep up with the work enquiries!

Well this is it from me for now, please excuse any typos: remember, done is better than perfect.

  1. Nice looking website. The posts are very helpful to pregnant woman so that’s great. You should write a post for men, about woman and pregnancy as I don’t see many posts like that online.

Looks like there is a lot of inspiration here, keep up the good work.
